Admin Hello

Anglo-Indian Portal Logo

Welcome

This site was originally designed to appeal to Anglo-Indians worldwide. However, after several years of being on-line, it appears that the majority of the Anglo Community is totally unaware of its existence.

So, it has been decided that the site will no longer be limited exclusively to that ethnic group, but will include a mixture of content that should appeal to a wider general audience.

Registration, which is free but not essential, grants a few extra privileges to the registered user. Visit the Brief Guide page where all is explained!

We hope you enjoy the site as much as we have enjoyed building it.

F1 - (by Fletch) ::: (19 March 2009, 18:13)

Entertainment

The Formula-1 season is almost upon us. The first race will take place in Melbourne on the 29th of this month. I have posted each of the race dates in the Calendar, scheduling them under GMT (UTC for the PC brigade), and you can 'contribute' to a reminder by the system if this sporting fixture is something in which you have an interest.

BLACK SATURDAY - (submitted by Gavin) ::: (15 February 2009, 22:08)

General

Anybody that views this is obviously doing it on their computer. It follows that they also have a television, and that means that the disaster that has befallen the state of Victoria in Australia is also news that they have followed with surprise, shock and horror!

I was initially reluctant to use the catastrophe as a 'News' item on the grounds that the people affected should be given a modicum of privacy and respect for their loss. But conversely, these pictures are powerful and should be given some exposure.

My thanks go to Gavin and to the many uncredited photgraphers for capturing these shots.

PAPER BOATS IN THE MONSOON - (Review by Lynette Rebeiro) ::: (05 February 2009, 20:47)

Guest Authors

Paper Boats in the Monsoon is a trip down memory lane which is what Owen Thorpe (the Author) intended it to be. A richly detailed story that will surely captivate not only his Anglo-Indian readers but many audiences.

India in the 1940's to India in the 1970's records Thorpe's generation and the quirky experiences of his upbringing. His journey spans many cities, from Madras and Bangalore in the South to the intoxicating life of Calcutta in the North to the historical City of Delhi.

PLAIN TALES FROM THE COMMONWEALTH - (by Aidan Hartley, BBC) ::: (22 December 2008, 18:16)

Community

When, in 1947, the British in India packed their bags, their polo sticks, their regimental jackets, and their memories, not everybody cheered.

Among those left behind were over 300,000 people of mixed European and Indian descent.

Despite in many cases being more Anglo than Indian, and speaking no language but English, they had no real choice but to stay on, and now feel that their culture is disappearing into the Indian mainstream.

MUSIC IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS - (by Raji Muthukrishnan) ::: (20 December 2008, 03:55)

Memory Lane

Can you decipher the cryptic clue in the graphic below? If you can't, read on to find out what it is about; if you can, read on anyway, as you will certainly enjoy an article that will bring back a flood of memories, especially if you were a teenager during the 50's and 60's.
